What is pumice? Pumice is a type of volcanic rock, produced when lava with a very high content of water and gases is ejected from a volcano during a certain kind of eruption in which gases are spewed high in the atmosphere. As the gas bubbles escape from the lava, it becomes frothy. When this lava cools and hardens, the result is a very light rock material filled with tiny bubbles of gas. Pumice is the only rock that floats on water. Its naturally abrasive qualities are perfect for exfoliation of hard skin areas like the feet. Volcanic pumice is easy-to-clean and bacteria and mould resistant because of its volcanic nature.

The foot is put under enormous pressure everyday, carrying body weight and absorbing impact. Because of this the skin on the feet is thicker that anywhere else on the body and grows skin cells extremely quickly. Hard dry skin is common and can lead to painful calluses and cracked heels. Therefore regular maintenance is vital to prevent these problems and keep your feet healthy and looking great.

An effective foot care routine:

• Dry brush your feet using a sisal brush or loofah pad at least one a week to exfoliate away dead skin, improve circulation and stimulate lymph nodes to regenerate healthy skin cells and drain away excess fluid and toxins.
• Allow feet to rest and soften by submerging them in warm water, maybe as part of your bathing regime.
• Then use a foot file or pumice on the heels, balls and side of the feet to prevent the build up of hard skin.
• Dry feet thoroughly before massaging in moisturising creams.
• To tackle odourous feet try rubbing the feet with the antibacterial crystal deodorant.
